Opioid Use Disorder and Harm Reduction:

This online course provides an overview of current trends in opioid use disorder (OUD), including the impact of fentanyl and polysubstance use, and introduces evidence-based harm reduction strategies that reduce overdose risk and improve treatment engagement. Participants will learn practical interventions that can be integrated into behavioral health practice alongside medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and recovery-oriented care.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Describe current trends in opioid use disorder and overdose risk.

2. Define harm reduction and its role in evidence-based OUD treatment.

3. Identify at least four evidence-based harm reduction interventions.

4. Verbalize at least one harm reduction principle to promote client engagement and reduce overdose risk.

Aubrey Hunt is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Certified Clinical Supervisor, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional with more than 25 years of experience in behavioral healthcare, addiction treatment, clinical supervision, higher education, and program leadership.

Aubrey has completed approximately 100 hours of psychodrama training through Psychodrama New Jersey and is committed to continuing her training and certification in psychodrama. She is passionate about integrating psychodrama, sociometry, and experiential methods into clinical practice to promote healing, connection, and personal growth.

While the past several years of her career have focused on administrative leadership and private practice, Aubrey is eager to return to a collaborative clinical team where she can continue developing as a psychodramatist, provide direct client care, mentor fellow clinicians, and contribute to innovative behavioral health programming.

Continuing Education Information:

Psychodrama NJ, provider number 2273, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 6/25/25-6/25/29. Social workers completing this course receive 1 Clinical continuing education credits.

Please note: ASWB ACE CE credits are accepted for LSWs, LCSWs, LPCs, LMFTs, and LCADCs in New Jersey. Professionals licensed outside of New Jersey should verify CE acceptance with their individual state licensing board.

This course meets the prescription opioid CE requirement for NJ Social Workers.

Participant Information:

Level: Content is geared toward beginners (students and professionals with little or no prior experience), but all are welcome.

Format: This interactive workshop requires active engagement. Learning will include didactic instruction and engaged learning activities.

Attendance:

• These workshops will be held live and online via the Zoom platform.

• Prompt arrival and full attendance are required.

• Participants must log in 5 minutes early and remain for the entire session.

• Cameras must remain on throughout the course.

• Microphones must be working, and participants should feel comfortable using them.

• Attendance must be from a private, distraction-free, and safe location.

• Do not attend while driving.
